Scientific Activities before Ph.D. :

- I've assisted in teaching 12 undergraduate courses and at least 2 B.Sc. projects.

biography

 

Usama S. Mohammed received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Assiut University, Assiut, Egypt in 1985 and 1993, respectively and Ph.D. degree from Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic in 2000, all in electrical engineering. From 1988 to 1996, he was at Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University, working as an Assistant Lecturer. From February 1997 to July 2000, he was research assistant in the department of Telecommunications Technology at the Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic. From November 2001 to April 2002, he was a post Doctoral Fellow with the Faculty of Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic. Since February 2006, he has been an Associated Professor with the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University. He authored and co-authored more than 42 scientific papers. His research interests include image coding, speech coding, telecommunication technology, statistical signal processing, blind signal separation, and video coding.

 

 

 

ASSIUT UNIVERSITY (AU)

Assiut University was inaugurated to encourage research, education and community services in Upper Egypt. It is located in Assiut City, which is 375 km south of Cairo. The University comprises sixteen faculties and two higher institutes. The faculties are those of: Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Commerce, Education, Law, Physical Education, Social Work, Arts, Nursing, Specific Education, Computer and Information Sciences and finally the faculty of Education in the New Valley Governorate. The two higher Institutes are those of Sugar Technology Research and South Egypt   Cancer   Institute.   Languages   of Instruction are Arabic and English. Admission requirements for the undergraduate level are the Egyptian Secondary School certificate or its equivalent, student's place of residence and the regulating decrees of the Supreme Council of the Egyptian Universities. Assiut University was established in 1957. Five hundred and fifty one students and the Academic staff was 21 in two faculties formed the body of the university at that time. In 2006/2007 the students reached 70049, the Academic staff was 2355 and the teaching assistants were 1408 in the university. In 2007, More than 10693 students are graduated from the university. The university provides over 200 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in art, science and technology. Many academic centers are also affiliated to AU to serve specific, goal-directed functions. Large numbers of students and staff members are accommodated within the university campus. Three other universities emerged from Assiut University's flagship campus and are now independent universities: El-Minia University Sohag University and South Valley University.

Student Services

The university facilitates accommodation for students in University Hostels for about 13000 male & female students. The twenty university restaurants offer about 36000 meals daily for students. The university also presents social and medical care as well as athletic and cultural activities for all students. The university grants the distinguished students monthly money-awards, offers money allowances for the needy students, and makes books available at a low price.
